Livestock cargo insurance is going up. Liability insurance is going up. Trucks, Trailers are going up. The overall cost of business is just out of line. Need to stop hauling cheap loads. Where did this idea of raising the prorate to 53,000 come from? REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE

I agree with the cost getting out of line!! I have never heard using 53,000 pounds pro-rate. I’ve always used 48,000 pounds and 50,000 pounds prorated

Been thinking the same myself. I felt pretty cheap for some loads we had going to WY for $5 prorated on 50k.I personally don't think a guy could break even with rates so cheap. REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE

We can’t do anything about it unless everyone comes together but the way things are people have to keep moving so they’ll keep running it. Definitely sucks REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE

Its not rocket scence, you cant haul for 4.50 when fuel is 3.50 plus. I bought my first trk in 1a5 rr5 rr5 980 was getting 1.80 a mile.making more than now because the northern trks are coming to tx, going back fo 4.00.we still get 5.25 and thats ruff with everything going up to bad we cant all get on the same page. You dont have to haul that cheap.in trying to figure out how you can pay a driver and everything else and stay in business. If ya dont want to be forced to sell out just raise your rates. I agree with you the only way to clean it up is to stop everybody from pulling someone else's trailer and then the freight haulers figured out how to get in it and 3 dollars a mile is great to them they don't want the people out there knowing what time it is they want fresh meat pay less

I’m 66 been doing this a really long time what a lot of you aren’t recognizing is this is not normal times You are not taking into account this is the lowest Cattle heard on record since 1951 that means less cattle to move Also more trucks on the road than ever before Holland cattle because everybody got SBA money and Covid money and bought trucks while economy was booming Oil has been really slow. A lot of guys would be in oilfield or hauling cattle or grain right now all these pressure The rate It’s simple supply and demand Northern trucks coming down here have nothing to do with it Hog haulers have been hauling hogs to Houston and used to haul them to Los Angeles for 40 years and when I get there and unload, they look for anything that takes them back close to where they came from What you should be doing is looking for loads where you unload that you can backhaul and I don’t mean backhaul for cut rate kill cows for 220 mile going back to Georgia or Florida might work for some guys if they have the time and want to do it because they have to go back anyway so if you have to drive home 1500 miles are you gonna tell me you wouldn’t put $3000 in your pocket instead of spending 1250 on fuel they cut right is gonna keep on until they weed a bunch of extra trucks out of the market. The best thing for us will be. It’ll take the pressure off the cattle trucks. A lot of guys will go get rich. Haul field, mud sand, Frack water, drilling equipment rigs all of them require a lot of trucks and they’re not all Company trucks. The second thing is we’re about to have the largest corn crop on record. That’s gonna take a crap load of hoppers y’all need to get over this Super truck or I’ll hauler image You have from the 1970s and 80s I lived it wouldn’t all that great those guys at Haul for three dollars I know several of them that do it. They have a little triangle hall set up. They make three dollars Holland and three directions and they don’t have deadhead miles. You should look for something that you can do unless you’re too fucking lazy load your truck with Hay and somebody even though it takes a lot of labor just do it put some bags of feed on the tail of your home an extra 500 but if you have to sweat, you probably won’t do it. Have a good day. REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE

To many trucks and a low heard count. The national herd count is the lows since I wanna say the 1960s and alot of guys got into the livestock side of things during covid. Let them run cheap and weed them selves out. REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE

I don't know what northern trucks anyone is talking about, coming from Montana to Texas I about crapped myself how cheap the rates were and how much freight gets hauled for free, nobody knew how to prorate. I agree this prorate over 52,000 is complete B.S.,we got hit with it from a plant down here in Texas. Like has been mentioned, there are way to many trucks in the game for the head count. With the price of cattle the buyers and the plant are going to play whatever game they can, cut rates, or play with the prorate. The way things are going insurance is going to put alot of guys out of business. We just got called by a company in West Texas that is hanging it up, after 40 some years in the business. Until the government gets a grip on these insurance companies and taxes there is going to be alot of trucks and trailers come up for sale in the next year. This cow market isn't going to cycle like it normally does, so there is going to be a big correction in the trucking side. My best advice is diversify. REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE
