I would just like to say that I personally had a 2002 Volvo 770 with the 550 Cummins and a 13 speed tranny that I was pulling a Custom Car Hauler with and while I know that I did not have near the weight on that most Bull Racks do I still had quite a milage increase with Propane Injection. In 2007 I had a full out of frame at Tom Nehl in Jacksonville Fl in the course of doing so I was refered to Charles Wilkes with Diesel Magnum Southeast Inc out of Hilliard Fl. I purchased the Diesel Magnum System for my Truck and opted to have the full conversion meaning that I gave up a Fuel Tank on the right side of the truck. It was replaced with a 110 Gallon Propane Tank which still fit nicely behind the Skirt. I was very skeptical at first of all the exagerated claims of the huge increases in Torque and MPG's but I had known Charles through another business that he operated in Auto Air Conditioning and after many years of business with him he had never given me any reason to distrust him although the 7 grand upfront cost was a little unnerving. I do not claim to be any type of a Mechanic but I was still baffled as to how this was going to work with the Propane being Injected into the rear of the Turbo but work it does very well. There is a small Regulator attached to the right side frame rail much like the one on your gas grill, a small panel about 8 inches square attached to the underside of the dash with a usb port on the side and a dime sized switch on the dash with push button on/off and lighted propane level indicator. While I did not know in advance that I was sort of the test dummy for Tom Nehl with Diesel Magnum I have no regrets. Another poster commented about if it was a viable solution the manufacturers would be jumping on the Bandwagon well Tom Nehl the freightliner dealer in Jacksonville Fl, while not the Manufacturer, now offers this system as an option on the Trucks sold by them and Diesel Magnum Southeast is now located at this same Dealership so maybe there might be a little something to this. When I signed the Contract for purchase I was given a card good at any Ferrel Gas Location in the US whereby Propane can be purchased at 1.52 per gallon. So with a 3.5 mpg increase on average and the injection sytem as a "on Demand" option meaning propane is not continuosly injected I generally bought all of my Propane at the Ferrel Gas in Norman Ok. With all of this being said yes there is a considerable Torque and MPG increase with this type of system and I now run this same system on my new truck which is a 2011 Volvo VNL 780. I can say honestly whether you choose to beleive it or not during this past Winters rush when all of the Northeners are coming South I was running empty North up in to Maine and averaging 12.25 MPG and 9.5 Coming back South with 9 Cars on. |
