I currently just have farm tags, but want to start hauling for hire loads. On the fmcsa web site it says livestock is exempt from needing an mc# just need a dot# for Kansas. Am I missing something because I was under the impression I needed an authority to haul cattle across state lines or to haul someone else's cattle? Will be hauling in Kansas and the immediately neighboring states during the spring and fall runs, if that makes a difference. | REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE |

I assume brokers want us to have an authority so they can verify all our info and insurance. I'm better off just getting it I suppose. it will open up more options if I need to haul something else or I can pause it if the truck is going to be setting for a while. Sorry for the post I've talked myself through my own question haha. | REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE |

Livestock and grain in their natural state unprocessed are exempt you do not need a Authority for Interstate movement Only a US DOT number But if you pickup and deliver within the same state it falls under that states regulations some such as texas require a seperate state DOT number if you do not have authority |
