Hi David. Bo Carpenter here. Typically, (but not always) your prorate is based on 50,000 lbs and works like this... Example... Load rate ${4.50}/mile Net weight {55,000} Loaded miles {1,000} miles Take the 5,000 lbs that is over and above the first 50,000 lbs and divide it by the base of 50,000 lbs and you will get 10%. So since 5,000 is 10% of 50,000 and the base rate is $4.50/mile, you take $4.50 and multiply the $4.50 by .10 and that will equal $.45 (45 cents is 10% of $4.50)so since the load is 10% over the base WEIGHT of 50,000 lbs the rate increases by whatever percentage over the base weight of 50,000 lbs is. Example: 5,000lbs divided by 50,000lbs = .10. So your base rate increases 10%, since 5,000lbs is 10% of 50,000lbs. so 10% of $4.50 = $.45...So now your rate for 55,000 lbs $4.95/mile. The numbers I have in the parenthesis, are just my simple example and you will need to fill in whatever the numbers are for your given load, and use the same method I have shown you and you will be able to figure out your rate for any prorated load. Keep in mind in some Northwest, and other regions, the prorate might be 48,000 lbs etc. So be sure you know what weight the prorated rate is based on, for factoring your specific and proper load rate. | REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE |

Another way is divide base rate by prorate weight. So $4/50000=.00008 Let's say 51680 so 51680x.00008= 4.13. | REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE |
