How old are you, and how did you make it to today let alone the last 6 weeks. Maybe your employer is not a very reputable carrier and maybe seeking someone to teach you would be to YOUR advantage. I am not trying to be a smart ass but the log book thing just isn't an internet or CB topic if you get me. Good luck lil dude.

Your Boss needs to know how to run a logbook so he can show you how to run the way he wants you to. Dont run for someone that as no idea how to run his own truck.Good Luck REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE

OK DRIVER WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LOG BOOKS THIS IS THE BASIC RUNDOWN OF THE LOG BOOK.

1: 11 HRS DRIVING - 10 HRS SLEEPER - YOU MUST SHOW 15 MIN FOR THINGS LIKE PTI AND POST TRIP INSPECTION.ALSO FOR FUELING MEALS AND WALK-AROUNDS.

2; UNDER THE NEW LOG BOOK RULES UNFORTANTILY THE ONLY OFF DUTY STATUS THAT CAN BE LOGGED IS WHEN THE TRUCK IS IN IT'S HOME TERMINAL OR YOU HAVE CHECKED INTO A HOTEL.

3: WHILE WAITING TO LD OR UNLD YOU MUST BE ON DUTY NOT DRIVING THIS IS WHERE IT GETS TRICKY YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED 11 HRS DRIVING YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED 14 HRS TOTAL BETWEEN ON DUTY NOT DRIVING AND DRIVING SO BE CAREFUL WHEN LOGGING SITTING AROUND WAITING TO LOAD.

THAT COVERS THE BASICS

KEEP IN MIND THAT THE MILEAGE THAT YOU ENTERED ARE THE MILES THAT ARE DRIVEN AND THEY HAVE TO MATCH THE HRS THAT ARE SHOWN. DOT FIGURES THAT ON A 65 MPH AVG. YOU CAN LEGAL LOG IN A DAYS TIME NO MORE THAN 715 MILES.

THIS ALONG WITH THE BASICS MAKE-UP IS WHAT THE DOT CONCEDERS WHEN LAYED OUT INFRONT OF THEM AS THE TRUTH UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.

HOPE THIS HELPED YOU JUST A RESPONSE TO A HONEST QUESTION ASKED.

NOW FOR SKIP'S VERSION

1: LOG BOOK??? WHAT IS A LOG BOOK ??? MY TRAILER HAS HOLES IN THE SIDE OF IT I HAUL LIVESTOCK!!! THAT THING THEY WANT US TO DRAW ALL THOSE SQUIGGLY LINES IN??? THROW IT OUT THE WINDOW. LOAD THE CATTLE AND WHOOP AND RIDE...YOU NEVER GET TO SLEEP LIKE YOUR SUPPOSE TO WE RUN MORE MILES THAN THE AVERAGE FREIGHT HAULERS BUT THAT IS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO...

AND MY FRIEND THAT IS WHY EVERYBODY WANT'S TO BE US AND MY FRIEND IN THE END WE AS LIVESTOCK RELOCATES RIDE LONGER HARDER AND FASTER THAN ANYONE ELSE.

well the company i run for now has a piece of paper that says i can go off duty for meals so all you have to do is get your company to give you a card that says when you log off duty for meals you are no longer responsible for the load truck or any company bussiness REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE

First of all you need to stick with the lose leafs...much easier to throw a page away then it is to rip one out of a book...you need to make sure your drive time doesn't incriminate you...for instance if you show 3 hours to drive 250 miles any DOT with half a brain is gonna be able to figure out that you are either full of crap or you averaging over 83 mph...both are bad things...pretty much you wont be able to show anymore then about 100 miles for every hour and a half you run which gives you about a 65 mph average...and in California your average will need to be less than that...you need to go to on duty not driving as much as possible because you're better off taking away from your 14 hours on duty than your 11 hours driving...if possible take all of your showers at the end of the day when you are done so you don't have to use an hour or so of your on duty not driving in the middle of your day...the beauty off loose leaf logs is that you can throw one away and start a new one that will fit what you need to do...the main thing is staying in the saddle...I don't care who you are you can't make good time stopping 3 times a day to go inside some place to sit down and eat 3 meals a day! hell you can't hardly stop to take a leak without losing 5 or 10 minutes it seems like...you cant spend an extra 20 or 30 minutes or more looking at all of the chrome goodies inside of truck stops either...I don't know if anything i said is gonna help but i just think the basic thing is to know what your average speed "should" be and what it "will" be ...and stay hammerin' down as much as you can...if your stopped somewhere eating a burger then those wheels ain't turnin' and the clock on your logbook is tickin'
