What happened to his truck would be the question I would have, this sounds fishy to me the way you presented it.If the truck is setting in the yard eating tag and insurance money and he can be trusted it might work.My quess is that the money would probably never be where it was supposed to be.So in other words he would run your truck shorting you on the money until you were sick of it or he got one bought someplace |

Who is driving this truck you or him? If you are driving them why 27% for driving and dispatch. 13% is good but not good if you have to keep tires and repairs up, that is the major expense of trailer. 13% and 27% makes 40%, I think I would find a new friend. |

My o/o pulling for me pulls my trailer, I take care of repairs, he greases and adjusts brakes, I dispatch him, and he is running under my authority. I charge him 15% of the gross of the load. It actually would be a little more fair to me if I was charging 20% to be honest but he is a good hand...good cowboy as well as a reliable truck driver. Anyone who has done this long knows it takes a combo of both to make a good "bull hauler". |

I have a friend who has hauled cows for many years, who wants me to drive one of my trucks hauling cattle. He has the customers lined up, with rates from 2.85 to 3.50 per mile. I will pay 13% trailer rent and cover all maintence except tires and brakes, and pay my friend 27% of the gross rate for driving, and dispatch. Is this a fair deal for everyone involved? Thanks for your comments. |

Nothing like getting cut off in mid post. Those are good rates, if that is what they are getting. the 13% for trailer rent is a good deal. The 27% for dispatch, and I hope your friend has a brokers licence, is not a good deal. I pay $25 a laod for dispatch, when I pay dispatch. When you total all of it you are going to pay 40% to your "friend". Personally I would not do this, but good luck to you, whatever you decide.

Thanks for your input. What do you think would be a fair rate to pay my friend for his driving and dispatching. I have the truck but he has the customers. |

If I understand your deal, you will be receiving 60% of revenue to cover all truck expenses (except driver) and all washouts, lights, possible trailer damage etc. except tires and brakes. Another question to think about; How will the driver be classified for tax purposes 1099 or employee which includes FICA. That can cost you an additional 7.65% of the drivers pay. Also, what about liability if there is an accident. Will you be carrying workmans comp Insurance? It's not my position to decide what is right for your business, but there are some additional factors to consider. Good Luck!! |
