Obama Highway Plan Fuels Talk of Gas Tax Hike. As if anyone could afford this.

The administration wants an immediate cash infusion of 50billion followed by a 500 billion increase over 6 years. That is a 200% increase from the current federal taxes alone. Current fuel tax is a average of 24.4 cents on deisel and 18.4 cents per gallon on gas. That is FEDERAL ONLY. This proposal could raise that to close to 44 cents per gallon deisel. Another way to put it is 5 to 11 cents per mile depending upon your fuel usage. I can only imagine that once the feds raise the tax then the states will follow suite. My question is what are they doing with all of this money. They certainly are not fixing the roads. I have over 20 years in the land planning and engineering field and have traveled enough to know that this money is being spent on other things. They currently collect more money per year than it took to fund the Iraq war in 2005 all in. November elections will be very important.

Everyone likes to blame the oil companies but I can assure you that the FEDs make more money on the fuel then they do.

okay, lets clarify things here! the talk of tax increases are not coming from the Obama administration! its coming from 2 former transportation seceratries(and now senators on both sides of the aisle are chiming in) and it is in response to finding the funding for the $50 billion that the president wants to invest in roads, railways, and runways. and please dont quote me but in the research i did nothing was mentioned of diesel...so far they are strictly talking about gasoline...this might change and i could be wrong, but this is what i have read so far. and im pretty sure that nothing on this will be decided until after the nov. elections it would be pure political suicide on all parties! just throwing my two cents in i dont want people to read the previous post and start worrying that this is a "for sure" thing and please be sure to vote smartly in the upcoming elections

I AM SURE SOONER OR LATER DIESEL WILL BE THROWN INTO THE MIX TO BE RAISED ALSO. FUEL TAX WILL GO UP SOME DAY. NO MATTER WHO IS IN OFFICE. AS ALWAYS KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES AND KEEP THIS OUT FOR AS LONG AS WE CAN BUT SOONER OR LATER IT WILL HAPPEN. REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE

political suicide----interesting---i think the boys up washington way have already committed the act of political suicide.out here in the country we are way full of their way of thinkin.both sides of the isle.washington has robbed the highway trust fund for so long now they look at it as their petty cash drawer----then they want to raise the weight limits---that will be the trade item we get to haul more weight--and pay more fuel taxes--but we will NOT receive enough compensation for our added maint costs and lost fuel mileage---let alone tire damage due to our poor infastructure.the bridge in minnesota is just a tip of the iceberg.thanks for the time to let me rant --now back to cuttin rates lieing aboyt fuel milage and how fast them trucks will run-----p.s.wait till csa 2010 hits we all will run for cover REPLY REPLY WITH QUOTE

Yes the current administration is keeping thier mouth shut on this one for now as the House Transportation Committee drafted a plan to budget for 500billion in a 6 year deal. The Highway Trust Fund has for the past several years required infusions from other accounts and has projected shortfalls somewhere between 134 and 262 Billion every year. Where do we really think this money is going to come from? The National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commissioned in 2008 said that federal fuel taxes should rise by 40 cents per gallon. This is inclusive of gas and deisel. The Treasury Department report stressed the need for private investment as part of the country's broader transportation vision. What do they think taxes are (private funding from both people and corporations). Obama's only comments about his and the HTC were that it will be fully funded. I guess the Federal Reserve needs to stock up on ink. We don't have a money tree just a giant money machine and we can just print it night and day without consequences.

I did not post this as a scare tactic or to imply that fuel prices will rise this month, I only posted it to get the word out.
