Progressive is the only company that I have found that will insure a driver 21 and under for more than local hauling as a single. Most want to see 23 with a year of exp before they will insure a driver. If all that's going to be done is local hauling 100 miles or less, I believe Great West will insure somebody under the age of 23 as a single. It's been a while since I've called for insurance quotes though.

Keep in mind many variables go into insurance, I can say for a fact insuring anybody under the age of 23 is very expensive. $1000+ per month. The only expection may be if the driver is teaming, and it is a team only situation OOIDA will insure a driver under 23/34 if it's a team situation but the swapper has to be present when the truck is being driven which creates a bit of a clutster. If teaming is a viable option you may have more options and cheaper coverages, progressive is probably the highest priced insurance company under the sun, they're also difficult to work with when it comes to trucking or cargo related issues and there are some brokers out there that frown upon progessive being your insurance provider. I'd also suggest going through an insurance broker if you chose to go with progressive as your insurance provider. There was a $3000 difference between being quoted directly through progressive, and being quoted through an outside agent when I purchased insurance the last time.
